The Daily Run
Before I get carried away, writing posts no one will read,
providing advice nobody asked for, it’s important to explain why I’m doing all
of this. The Daily Run, is meant to be a fitness and health blog, geared
towards the busy among us, who do not have all the time in the world to work
out and who do not have the disposable income for a top tier diet.
Why Running?
While I will discuss a wider range of fitness focuses than
just running, I will admit that this blog emphasizes the usefulness of a cardio
routine such as running. Running is an equipment free, skill free, highly
accessible exercise opportunity. The health benefits of running are numerous as
well. As a cardio exercise, running is geared towards burning calories and fat;
if you can fit an hour into your schedule, you can get out there and burn up to
1500 calories if you do it right. The added benefit is that the good effects of
running stay with you even after you are done: with a raise in your core body
temperature, your muscles will continue to burn up energy, even after you’ve
stopped running. Running is a great exercise, and if someone has the mental
strength to run circles around a track for miles, or start off fast and keep up
a tough pace for over an hour, they have the strength to do just about any other
workout.
And who am I?
I will admit I have some bias towards distance running. Who
I am, and the reason I’m doing this blog are all related. I ran cross country
and track in high school, where I got just good enough to go to upper level
competitions, but never good enough to matter at them, and never good enough to
go to a college team for my abilities. I’m a failure in that regard. Since
then, I’ve moved on to study at college, where I’ve experienced a great lack of
time to do any exercise. Constantly, I’ve found that in the days that I’m most
busy, a good daily run is always the best opportunity to stay healthy.
